Genesis of pisoliths and of the Weipa Bauxite deposit, northern Australia
The bauxite has a spongy texture and shows evidence of having formed by the replacement of the primary minerals in situ. Bauxites in the Darling Ranges, Western Australia, form a mantle on rolling hills of granites and gneisses through which cut narrow dolerite dykes. The bauxite is friable, made up of nodules and oolites in an earthy matrix.
